Juliet Curry graduated summa cum laude from Stephen’s College with her BFA in Performing Arts and English. She has been working with children for the past 15 years, teaching creative dramatics, theater, dance, improvisation, storytelling, and visual arts. She has directed and taught at SmART Space, Kids on Stage, Idyllwild School of the Arts Summer Program, and The Santa Monica Police Activities League, among others. Her work with “grown-ups” includes performing and teaching with a variety of theater groups, including the critically acclaimed Boom Chicago, based in Amsterdam. Of all her experiences, Juliet enjoys working with children the most, whom she believes are the true “teachers” in our world.
Michelle Kim grew up in Berkeley and graduated from UCLA in 2007 with a degree in Fine Arts. Michelle’s concentrations included ceramic sculpture and photography (Michelle takes amazing photos of kids at SmART Space camps!). She was also a member of the UCLA Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Latin Jazz Band. Michelle is currently working towards a Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential at CSULA. Upon graduating in March of 2009, Michelle will continue finding new ways to incorporate the arts into elementary education.
Chrissy Muraczewski is from Milwaukee, WI. She has an MFA in painting from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, MI and a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. Chrissy currently lives and works as a painter in the Santa Fe Art Colony in downtown Los Angeles. She has exhibited in New York and in Los Angeles. Most recently, her work was acquired by the West Collection. Chrissy has worked with SmART Space for the past four years bringing her creative teaching talents to a variety of art classes and camps.
Leslie Nuesca has been teaching children’s yoga since February 2006 at local schools in Los Angeles, Smart Space, her Home Studio and Private classes. Leslie is also a permanent substitute at Golden Bridge and Yoga West. Leslie earned her Yoga teaching certificate from Golden Bridge Yoga in April 2006. She recently completed the Khalsa Way Pre-natal Teachers Training Course with Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa. Leslie loves spending time with her 8 year old son, bike riding and hiking in the local mountains. Leslie creates a safe and fun environment for children of all ages to expand, explore, and express their unique physical, emotional, and mental gifts.
Trevor Parker has enjoyed working with children for over a decade. His experiences include teaching improv theater workshops, working as an at-risk youth counselor, and educating children with special needs. Trevor holds a Special Education Teaching Credential and a Cultural Literacy Certificate, as well as a degree in Economics. He enjoys creating recycled art, playing guitar, and long games of “zip-zap-zop.” Currently you can find Trevor searching for ways to integrate art into his algebra classes.
Deborah Reilly has a BFA from Montana State University and has lived and traveled throughout the U.S., Europe and Puerto Rico. Adept in many mediums, Deborah falls in favor with the many Modern Art movements and incorporates these Masters in her lesson plans. Her teaching style is innovative, inspirational, informative and fun! In addition to teaching Deborah paints, draws, sculpts and is the creator of Starchy and Husk, a children’s book series starring a potato and corn cob who fight crime in rhyme.
Mike Wendland has been educating children in the arts for many years. From his extensive experience as a private guitar teacher and group music instructor, to his work with Equal Opportunity Productions teaching theatre to underprivileged Los Angeles youth, to his current occupation as a theatre instructor at Summit View Elementary in Culver City, Mike loves working with kids and encouraging their creativity. In his free time Mike enjoys playing music and snowboarding. He hails from Watertown, WI.
